Cloth as Community: Hmong Textiles in America was fully booked, and we decided to extend the popular exhibition so that it could visit more venues throughout the country now through 2022.
The exhibition explores the transformation of the centuries-old art form that Hmong refugee artists made as they emigrated to the United States. Traditional abstract patterns in works created for ceremonial use gave way to pictorial and narrative story cloths that were created for sale to US buyers.
